Music
Maria Montessori considered music to be one of our 'native languages'. One that can be used for subtle and sensitive communication - music has all the power and range of a spoken language. That's why we place great importance on the development of communication... through music.
The bells provide children the opportunity to hear and play an instrument that produces pure tone for each of the notes of the C major chromatic scale. The children learn to match and grade sounds, and even play tunes by ear! From here the children then move on to composing their own tunes, and they can learn to write their music down in notation. They'll also learn to read music.
