Hinewai is 3 and she attends Fernlea
“A number of the children in our extended family have attended a Montessori pre-school; and we saw the benefits of a Montessori start in life in those children all the time.
We had an extremely positive visit to the Fernlea classroom which made the decision to choose Capital Montessori very easy.
We will never forget the atmosphere in the class that day - happy settled children working on all sorts of activities. It was a pleasure to see. Although we were aware of the benefits of Montessori it was a very pleasant experience to see it in action.
Hinewai has been at Capital Montessori for just over a year now, since she was 2 1⁄2. We attended the Monday morning play group at Capital Montessori which was a lovely introduction to the school and future classmates for our daughter.
We also got to know the playgroup parents, many of who had other children at the school already and there was the opportunity to ask plenty of questions about how things worked.
We are often entertained with Hinewai’s insights into what goes on in her class. Although we are aware that Montessori encourages each child to select and work on individual activities, our daughter obviously gets great pleasure in the games involving all of the children, she is becoming very good at telling us the rules to these games.
We see many examples of how she is focusing on her own work, there is a clear development in her writing of letters, and attempts at her name, she’s developing drawing style, and her use of tools, such as scissors is very focused. It is obvious to us that the balance of individually focused work and group activities is enjoyed by our daughter. If she enjoys the school community and world of learning Montessori’s method are a great success!
Capital Montessori is everything we expected… and more - a community in which our daughter is thriving and one where we feel included, informed and comfortable!
There has been a progressive but obvious development in our daughters focus on the activities she undertakes at home. Her attendance at Capital Montessori has helped us to improve the home environment for focused play.
We often hear our daughter talk about the ‘big kids’ and their role at school, how they give guidance to the younger children, there is clearly a community within the classroom. The children of different ages have their roles, with the younger children understanding, and I imagine looking forward to, their changing role as they get older”.
