Susan Barber - Part-time Teacher, Kowhai
"I simply love being a teacher at Capital Montessori"
Susan joined Capital Montessori in 2005. Her experience of learning about the Montessori philosophy, and gaining an understanding of how very young children develop and learn, has reinforced her belief and commitment to the Montessori approach. Susan has been a qualified primary school teacher for twenty years - or twenty-five years if you count a further 5 years when she taught part-time, while her children were very young. She has held senior management positions and has a specialised qualification in literacy.
Susan has also completed most of her papers towards her ECE diploma. Susan has two children, now both adults and an eight year old grandson. For many years Susan and her partner Trevor have been developing a garden located on several acres of a high, very windy Wellington hillside. Susan says that she has learnt so much about soil, plants, shelter and the importance of being timely with garden work!
